Made by the Zeynel Abidin family in Turkey who are well known for their remarkable Ouds, Cumbus and Saz making. This little "pocket" mandolin is well worth the cost. Finished in a high gloss with a flat-backed pine body and sporting a mahogany stain, this mandolin is an easy size to manage. About 25 inches in length and just under nine inches in width.
The finished, laminate spruce soundboard has an arched top with internal bracing. The fret is directly below the nut, thus giving it a "zero" fret. The strings rest on the fret, creating a very low action. Four Courses of two strings each. The four lowest strings are wound metal and the higher four strings are non-wound metal. The strings should be tuned G-D-A-E, low to high. If you decide to switch out the strings at some point to light gauge mandolin strings, then on the 12 inch scale you can tune it as if it were are rare, piccolo mandolin at C-G-D-A...an octave above a Mandola and a fourth above a regular mandolin...producing truly unique sound.
The bridge is movable, or "floating" and we do not always ship it with the bridge in place to prevent damage in certain circumstances...you can place it where it is most comfortable for you. Typically, you would place the bridge by measuring from the top (zero) fret to the 12th fret, the repeat the distance from the 12th fret to the bridge placement. We include a soft travel case too! Three String Kemenche, Made in Turkey with Soft Case and Supply of Rosin Too! This bowed kemenche is Made in Turkey which is appropriate as Turkey appears to be its origin. Easy to learn and to play. Three strings, light weight and about 22 inches long with a 3 inch deep peg box. The bridge is moveable and should be positioned between the sound holes on the soundboard. The Arabic Kanoon (Kanoone, Kanoun or Qanun) is 41 1/2 inches x 16 inchs and weighs 23 lbs. in the case. It was made in Egypt and has 4 keys and 75 nylon strings.
This predecessor of the piano, the Kanoon is mentioned in 10th century Arabic writings. Today it's popular throughout North Africa, the Middle East, Turkey, Persia and even Eastern Europe. It's played on the knees and plucked with metal finger picks. The metal sharpening levers alter the pitch of individual strings by eighth or quarter tones.Comes with a world tour hard case. The solid rosewood MEDIEVAL PIPE is carved in three sections, with brass trim and key. 8 finger holes. Reed mounts on the inside. Includes reed.
The Medieval Pipe is very similar to the rauschpfeif and the cornamuse. There are important differences. The rauschpfeif is distinctive among Renaissance windcap instruments, as it has a conical bore giving it a loud voice. The cornamuse has a similar shape as the Medieval Pipe, but the bell on the cornamuse has a closed end. The cornamuse sound escapes through the side holes of the bell giving it a very soft voice. The Medieval Pipe has a straight bore and the bell has an open end; it is much softer sounding than the rauschpfeife. The primary art in playing windcap instruments is in maintaining a strong breath pressure to keep the reed vibrating and the instrument in tune. The required breath pressure is very strong compared to flute and recorder.

This beautiful OUD is Made In EGYPT and features a faux red painted body and spruce soundboard with ebony pegs. The asymmetric line adds interest to this excellent instrument. We also supply you with a traveling black nylon case.
The Flat Back OUD has no frets, with a floating bridge, and measures 28 inches from the nut to the base. The peg box measures 9 inches. It is 13.5 -14 inches at it’s widest point and measures 4 inches deep. Neck length nut to body is 8 inches. This OUD has bracing inside, under soundboard and a center sound hole with decorative inlay . It has 12 strings with six wired and six nylon.

The Name "Rebec" originates from the Arabian word "Rabob", dating to the 10th Century. It is played by resting on the shoulder as if a violin, across the chest, or tucked into an armpit...whichever is most effective for you. The soprano Rebec is tuned, low note to high: D, A, E, above middle C.

6 String Lute Guitar, Lacewood, from Zachary Taylor. The lute-guitar is an attractive instrument of a similar size to the guitar but with a body like a lute. With a neck shaped like that of a guitar and a 51mm (2 inch) nut of ebony, it will appeal to those who are familiar with normal classical or acoustic guitars. It is tuned like a guitar with six strings, three of plain nylon and three of nylon wound in nickel. If it is to be used for lute music, the 3rd string may be tuned a semi-tone down to F# to enable the application of lute fingering. Spruce is used for the unpolished soundboard in keeping with original lutes and its soundhole has a carved rose in an attractive geometric pattern. In keeping with the lute, the characteristically bowl-shaped body is achieved by edge-gluing together slats of thin wood bent to a specific shape with no internal structure to retain its form. The overall length is 953 mm (37.5 inches) and the scale length is 648 mm (25.5 Inches), similar to a normal guitar.

Zachary Taylor is a designer and maker of early stringed instruments. Early in his career as a performer on classical guitar and lute he began to study the creation of representations of early instruments. In his relentless research from many sources he endeavours to acquire sufficient information for the construction of examples in the likeness of original instruments.
For more than a quarter of a century he has taught the subject of lutherie in the Universities of Suffolk, England and Vigo, Spain and in colleges including West Dean, Missenden Abbey and York in England. Major projects include the re-construction of instruments that form the entrance arch to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
His authorship includes many books, including 'Make and Play a Lute' and 'Making early stringed instruments'. It is Zachary Taylor's mission to design authentic examples of ancient instruments, accessible to enthusiasts who demand high quality without a high-price tag.

The soundboard is finished and the bridge is fixed. The variegated wood body is made with stave construction and has the classic teardrop shape. The center three staves are inlaid with vine motifs. There are twelve ebony pegs and twelve strings in six courses of two each six nylon, and six metal (silver) wound. Includes pick, extra strings and case. The case has three locks and a hand grip, vinyl outside and cloth inside.

Made by the Zeynel Abidin family in Turkey who are well known for their remarkable Ouds, Cumbus and Saz making. This little "pocket" mandolin is well worth the cost. Finished in a high gloss with a flat-backed pine body and sporting a mahogany stain, this mandolin is an easy size to manage. About 25 inches in length and just under nine inches in width.
The finished, laminate spruce soundboard has an arched top with internal bracing. The fret is directly below the nut, thus giving it a "zero" fret. The strings rest on the fret, creating a very low action. Four Courses of two strings each. The four lowest strings are wound metal and the higher four strings are non-wound metal. The strings should be tuned G-D-A-E, low to high. If you decide to switch out the strings at some point to light gauge mandolin strings, then on the 12 inch scale you can tune it as if it were are rare, piccolo mandolin at C-G-D-A...an octave above a Mandola and a fourth above a regular mandolin...producing truly unique sound.
The bridge is movable, or "floating" and we do not always ship it with the bridge in place to prevent damage in certain circumstances...you can place it where it is most comfortable for you. Typically, you would place the bridge by measuring from the top (zero) fret to the 12th fret, the repeat the distance from the 12th fret to the bridge placement. We include a soft travel case too! The classic elegance of the famous Egyptian Tear-Drop Shaped Bowl is more than evident here. The Bowl and Neck Stave are constructed with alternating light and dark hard woods. Traditionally played with 11 strings, it may arrive strung with 12, the 12th string being removable at your option. he three round sound holes have decorative rosette inserts and are trimmed with faux mother of pearl inlay. The soundboard has a light finish. There are eleven strings. The bridge is fixed. The nut to bridge measures approximately 23.25 inches. This is a beautiful instrument. Also comes with a traveling black nylon case/ The Flat Back OUD has no frets with a floating bridge and measures 28” from the nut to the base. The peg box measures 9 inches. It is 13.5 -14 inches at it’s widest point and measures 4 inch deep, neck length nut to body is 8 inches. Has bracing inside under soundboard and a center sound hole with decorative inlay .
