We take music seriously and here is a serious way to get your young 'Piper started! We begin with our 12 inch by 14 inch bagpipes. They have a Royal Stewart Tartan RED Plaid cover and a functional Rosewood Chanter. Three non-functioning drones, but they look good, and are not plastic, but actual RoseWood. Kids being kids, we include a spare synthetic chanter reed.
We include a seasoned rosewood practice chanter that is SIZED FOR SMALLER FINGERS and SMALLER LUNGS (pipers always begin learning the pipes with a practice chanter), the excellent BAGPIPE TEACHER DVD, ...so your young 'Piper can see...and hear...how to play. We package this in a genuine bagpipe carrying case.
Parents, even with the DVD and the simplified bagpipe set, this will still require you provide some help to the new "Piper. In a few months, your youngster can be ready for a complete bagpipe set with functional tenor drones, bass drone, along with a functional chanter.
These 'Pipes still require a lot of air, and youngsters are usually quite up to it! This set will work for a young piper...up to about 9 or 10 years old...after that, they need a fully functional bagpipe set...not full sized, more like our adolescent sets that come in two sizes.

A European, 5 string, Mountain Dulcimer. This dulcimer features a rosewood frame, birch soundboard, cutouts in soundboard and one on the back. Includes pick and wooden slide. Satin finish on body.
Measures 33 1/2 inches long by 5 inches wide and 2 inches high. Most early dulcimers had a strictly diatonic scale; that is, the frets were placed so as to produce a major scale (do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do) with no extra half steps.

The Name "Rebec" originates from the Arabian word "Rabob", dating to the 10th Century. It is played by resting on the shoulder as if a violin, across the chest, or tucked into an armpit...whichever is most effective for you. The soprano Rebec is tuned, low note to high: D, A, E, above middle C.

6 String Lute Guitar, Lacewood, from Zachary Taylor. The lute-guitar is an attractive instrument of a similar size to the guitar but with a body like a lute. With a neck shaped like that of a guitar and a 51mm (2 inch) nut of ebony, it will appeal to those who are familiar with normal classical or acoustic guitars. It is tuned like a guitar with six strings, three of plain nylon and three of nylon wound in nickel. If it is to be used for lute music, the 3rd string may be tuned a semi-tone down to F# to enable the application of lute fingering. Spruce is used for the unpolished soundboard in keeping with original lutes and its soundhole has a carved rose in an attractive geometric pattern. In keeping with the lute, the characteristically bowl-shaped body is achieved by edge-gluing together slats of thin wood bent to a specific shape with no internal structure to retain its form. The overall length is 953 mm (37.5 inches) and the scale length is 648 mm (25.5 Inches), similar to a normal guitar.

Zachary Taylor is a designer and maker of early stringed instruments. Early in his career as a performer on classical guitar and lute he began to study the creation of representations of early instruments. In his relentless research from many sources he endeavours to acquire sufficient information for the construction of examples in the likeness of original instruments.
For more than a quarter of a century he has taught the subject of lutherie in the Universities of Suffolk, England and Vigo, Spain and in colleges including West Dean, Missenden Abbey and York in England. Major projects include the re-construction of instruments that form the entrance arch to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
His authorship includes many books, including 'Make and Play a Lute' and 'Making early stringed instruments'. It is Zachary Taylor's mission to design authentic examples of ancient instruments, accessible to enthusiasts who demand high quality without a high-price tag.

Based on the round-back guitar found in Germany, the Baroq-uleles™ are one of the most option-rich lines of instruments we carry. This Tenor-sized instrument is based upon a 344.5mm (13.56 inch) scale. It features a European spruce soundboard with an interlaced rosette design taken from a 16th century vihuela. The back is a round-back or bowl shape made of staves of sheesham rosewood (Dalbergia sissoo). The neck is solid sheesham rosewood and features a nut width of 36mm (1.44 inches) with a bone nut. This instrument is outfitted with standard friction ukulele tuners. The bridge, also made of sheesham rosewood incorporates a genuine bone saddle. An end-pin strap button is standard. A soft case is included, at no additional cost.
The Baroq-uleles™ come in 3 sizes including Soprano, Concert and Tenor. Each size is graced with its own unique rosette design, each of which is taken from museum examples from the 16th and 17th centuries.
In addition to the three sizes, the Baroque-ulele™ is also available with 3 types of woods for the back: sheesham rosewood, lacewood (chenar) or variegated with alternating staves of rosewood and lacewood. Finally, ensuring that you will find an instrument that best fits your needs, these instruments are also available with two types of tuning keys: Baroque-style ebony tuning pegs or standard ukulele friction tuners. The Taylor lute has a body made of solid lacewood staves, a rosewood fret board on a maple neck. The peg box is maple with a rosewood veneer and the tuners are ebony. The soundboard is made out of European spruce with a rosewood bridge and rosewood end pin. There are 15 nylon strings in 7 courses. The nut width is 67 mm.
The 7 and 8 course Renaissance lutes designed by Zachary Taylor are based on an instrument made by Hans Frei, the original of which may be seen in the Warwick Museum in England. This lute was made in Bologna about 1540 and since then may have been the subject of conversions to the stringing and the soundboard. Apart from shortening the string length from 670mm to 600, for ease of left-hand fingering, the instruments follow Hans Frei's principles of construction. Hard case included.

Large...Faerie Blemished...Rosewood thumb piano, 5" x 7", 17 steel keys and two vibrato holes on the back. The thumb piano originates in Africa. It is also known as the mbira or likembe. The metal keys are mounted on a wooden box that acts as the resonating chamber. To play, rest the thumb piano on the fingers of both hands and hold it between your palms. Cover the vibrato holes with your fingers. Then pluck the keys with your thumbs. As you play you can un-cover and cover the vibrato holes as you like. Many different tunings are acceptable, according to personal preference. Specific tuning of a thumb piano is only an issue when two instruments are played together; then they should generally agree in tuning. Otherwise, the tuning is subjective and should only be pleasing to the player. The longer keys have lower pitches and shorter keys have higher pitches. The keys can be adjusted by tapping them in or out to adjust their length, and therefore their pitch. FAERIE BLEMISHED MODEL...FINAL CLEARANCE.
